Advanced driving courses
Alan has a wide range of advanced driving courses. The most popular are shown on the right.
Advanced drivers are safer, smoother and cause less pollution by using less fuel.
Advanced Drivers are up to 50% less likely to be involved in a road accident. They make smooth progress and suffer less stress. They aim to be cool, calm and in control, whatever the conditions.
If you’re interested in becoming an advanced driver, Alan offers a range of courses to help you get started.
Ideally, we hope it will encourage you to go on to take the test with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) or RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders (RoADAR).

The aims are to raise driving standards and to reduce road accidents and driving offences.
Bumpers can help by either taking you on a driving assessment and then working to improve your driving, or we can design a course of lessons to help you pass an advanced driving course.
A typical programme covers:
- defensive driving techniques
- safe use of speed
- car control and skid avoidance
- hazard perception
- positioning and cornering
- motorway driving
- overtaking
It is based on "Roadcraft" (the police driver's handbook) and the current Highway Code.
Each lesson you are encouraged to read up on the points covered in that week's session.
Lessons can be fitted in around you.
Benefits of advanced driving can include:
- improved safety for you and your family
- more economical and environmentally cleaner motoring
- more enjoyment of driving
- confidence to cope with today's demanding conditions
Following advanced training , we recommend that you join a local group of IAM or RoADAR; they offer coaching to help you reach the standard required for the advanced driving test.

Passing an advanced test can lead to better deals from certain insurance companies, but the very fact that you will be a safer driver helps to protect your no claim bonus!

This element of driving is suitable for any one who has passed their driving test.
The difference between driving around town normally and the skills required to drive safely on the motorway where traffic is moving at great speeds are vastly different and to the inexperienced driver can be a frightening experience.
Motorways differ from ordinary roads in that they are designed to help traffic travel faster and in greater safety, this puts greater demand on driver and vehicle.
Motorways are statistically safer than other roads in relation to the number of accidents occurring, however when they do happen accidents occur at higher speeds and involve more vehicles.
Traffic traveling faster means that conditions change more rapidly and you need to be alert and have total concentration.
However with the right tuition motorway driving can be a rewarding and time saving experience and should be part of the skill set of any full license holder
A bumpers course in motorway tuition is designed to take the fear out of motorway driving and will cover such elements as :-
Motorway signs and signals, getting on and off the slip roads, lane discipline, braking, overtaking, motorway roadwork's and effective observation.
If you haven't driven for a while or your driving hasn't included any busy fast moving traffic then let Bumpers vastly improve your decision making and anticipation skills by giving you motorway tuition.

If your new to the UK, either as a visitor, temporary resident, student or as a new permanent resident you may need to take a UK Theory and Practical driving test.
EU and EEC Countries:
If you hold a valid EU/EEC community licence and are visiting GB, you can drive any vehicle if the full entitlement for that vehicle is shown on the licence.
Drivers from ALL other countries:
To ensure continuous driving entitlement a provisional GB licence must have been obtained and a driving test(s) passed before the 12-month period elapses. If you obtain a provisional licence during this period, you are not subject to provisional licence conditions eg displaying 'L' plates or being supervised by a qualified driver or being precluded from motorways.
However, if you do not pass a test within the 12-month concessionary period you will not be allowed to drive as a full licence holder and provisional licence conditions will apply.
The rules are complicated, so please use the link below to see if you need a UK Licence .
The D1 Licence - Minibus Certification

Did you know that drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to tow large trailers and gain entitlement to category B+E and all larger vehicles.
Category B Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM and with up to 8 passenger seats may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM) OR a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.
All drivers who passed a car test before 1 January 1997 retain their existing entitlement to tow trailers until their licence expires. This means they are generally entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8.25 tonnes MAM.

OUR AIM - is to train you to pass the tests as quickly and efficiently as possible while you learn commercial driver skills for work afterwards - Good Training Pays !
